We love the big axes. Absolutely love them. But when it comes down to it, over a lifetime of campfires, fishing trips, backcountry hunts and brush clearing projects, let's be honest, it's the humble hatchet that remains the King of Utility!

It's doubful you'll ever actually use any axe more than your trusty hatchet. We're very proud to finally have one of our own to add to the long, storied history of the hachette.

In Latvian, "Vilkilni" translates roughly as "Wolf Fang," and this little vixen has plenty of bite for her size.

We wanted to make a "just right" hatchet that checked a lot of boxes on a lot of tasks. A super sharp business end, aggressive angle geometry, a comfortable grip around the neck for carving, a wide edge and slim profile for skinning, and a light, whippy chopper for the firewood tasks. We think the Vilkilni offers outstanding all-round utility and design for the modern wanderer of woods.
